TAXI MEMBER HONORS TROOPS WITH SONG By Rachel Laskow
"You're My American Hero" isn't just any song for the troops in Iraq—it's for everyone who has fought in a war, and their families. When TAXI member Robert Allen Mycko first heard about U.S. troops losing their lives in Iraq, he was inspired to write a song. The perfect opportunity came along when some of his co-workers were sending a care package to troops in Iraq. Robert wanted to include something meaningful—his song, "You're My American Hero."
"I just wanted to say, 'We think about you and your families,'" he said.
Robert has had great success with song, particularly due to his April 18 performance for the governing body at the Capitol in Hartford, Connecticut. More than 200 people attended the event.
"Incredible. That's the only world I can describe it with," he said.

MySpace.com is another vehicle Robert used to spread the buzz about his song. Many people have requested to be linked to his site. He was also on Channel 30 News, a local NBC network, and Channel 12 repeated a story about him every hour on Memorial Day. A local radio station played the live version of his song nine times, and several newspapers covered Robert's story.
Due to the publicity, people in his town of Ansonia, Connecticut, and beyond have started to recognize Robert. "Chuck [my guitarist] and I can walk into any place and get a gig," he said.
Robert joined TAXI last December and believes that TAXI's critiques have helped his career as a musician. "The critiques are phenomenal," he said.
In fact, Robert was an electrical engineer, but the publicity surrounding his song has made music a career for him.
Robert's 10-track CD, including "You're My American Hero," will be released in a few weeks. He is also hoping for a publishing deal to come through.
